I have been a client of June Armstead’s since 1996. When I first came to her, I had severely over-processed and damaged hair as well as severe hair breakage and loss. At that time there was nothing we could do but commit to what is referred as “THE BIG CHOP.” I will admit I was not happy, but with over 75% hair loss, I was desperate, and figured “…might as well, I’m ‘bald’ anyway.” So we proceeded. With her knowledge and experience, she advised me to discontinue chemical relaxers and to begin to care for my hair without it. Over the course of the next 2 years, my hair grew from ½” to shoulder length. My hair care routine consisted of regular washings, scalp treatments, deep conditionings, and routine trimmings. In fact, she is the only one I ever trusted to trim my ends. In the past, many beauticians would claim to “trim” my hair only for me to end up with more than an inch cut **grrrr.** June takes her time to explain the true reason for necessary regular hair trimming in conjunction with healthy hair care maintenance. She also advised me about hair care products and what to look for and what NOT to look for (“the deceivers”) in the ingredients.
Over the course of my hair care journey, I have ventured off of her tired and true advice and tested the waters with other products I thought would work, or neglected to follow the advice she gave me. I always came back to her with my tail between my legs and with damaged hair and breakage. She’d shake her head, give me the “I told you so” look, and we would start over. I never doubted she could bring my hair back to life, and I never worried that we could correct the problem. I’d say confidently, “go ahead and cut it…” Each time, under her care and following her instructions, my hair would grow with little issue. Now at almost 15 years later, I still seek her advice for me, and now my daughter’s hair.
I’ve worn braids, weaves, you name it, but it was due to the increased the styling options I wanted, not because I was hiding something. I knew that underneath, I had a head of healthy full, thick beautiful hair, and that make a difference! I recently have started to lock my hair using the Sisterlocks® technique. Unfortunately, at this time, June is not certified in that process, but she regularly goes through my locks, consults with me, and assesses the health of my hair. The Sisterlocks® consultant who started and maintains my locks saw my hair for the first time and was in awe at the health and beauty of my hair. She said she had never encountered ANYONE with such healthy and thick beautiful hair! Each visit she continues to be impressed and amazed with the healthy state of my hair. Although I’m sure DNA has a little to do with it, I thank June for the knowledge she has shared with my over the years, the care and instruction she has given and continues to give me, and the painstaking care she has given to me and my hair.
If you ever have the privilege of having June Armstead care for your hair, please take into serious consideration every bit of advice she gives and every suggestion she makes, because it is well worth it. They say, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” June provided tons of prevention, so you do the math **wink.**

My name is Aubria. I have been going to Body, Soul And Spirit
Salon for nearly 4 years. On a typical salon visit, I'd have my hair relaxed,
colored, deep conditioned, trimmed and styled. Every salon visit my hair looked
fantastic, healthy and shiny. Because of my limited resources, I was only able
to go to the salon once every 3 months.
I soon realized my hair was breaking off and didn't maintain
its luster in between visits. In fact, my hair was getting shorter instead of
longer. June (owner of Body, Soul and Spirit Salon) told me how to take care of
my hair in between visits. Which helped, but not enough to stop the breakage.
Eventually, I decided I needed to also use the same products she was using in
my hair, I went to Sally's Beauty Supply and bought Proclaim® Professional Hair
Care Products--from conditioner & shampoo to oil sheen and hair wax.
Since I have been following this routine of taking care of
my hair with Proclaim® Professional Products, there has been a dramatic
improvement. It has been over six months and my hair is fuller, healthier and
shinier. My hair is actually growing! Pretty soon, I will have hair I can
fling! I continue to follow her advice on what products to use for my hair! She
is happy with my hair and so am I!

Where do I start? After becoming fed up with weaves and
braids I was ready to commit to my natural hair. Shop after shop I was told
"Oh get a relaxer". Uhh when your hair is paper thin you don't want
your scalp exposed ya know?!
Well I found the website for Body, Soul and Spirit and made the call. I walk
into a quiet, clean and serene environment. I meet June and she begins to have
me fill out paper work. Paperwork? I'm impressed. We move along to the
consultation. She answers all of my questions, truthfully and diligently. She
makes jokes and recommendations.
I was prepared to cut all my hair off and just start over when I made it to
her. She advised that wasn't necessary and told me to give her three months.
Okay what have I got to lose?
Two years later I couldn't be happier. I have natural, shoulder length, non
relaxed hair. I couldn't have imagined this being possible. I get my hair done
once a month. I use the same products that she uses in the salon. Hey if you
want salon quality hair use the same products right? The best thing is the
product line that June uses is sold at Sally's Beauty stores. I don't put
ANYTHING in my hair that is not from that same product line she uses.
I listen to what she says about hair care. Once I got some semi-permanent hair
color that didn't take quite right, but I was okay with the error. June said
no! She had me come back twice to get the color just right ,why because June is
a complete professional (perfectionist) who takes pride in her work and
really enjoys what she does. Best of all you can get your hair done at 7:30 in
the morning. She is always on time and your not there all day.

Hi, June! I've just
returned from a professional black women's conference in Palm Springs, where dress and appearance are
of paramount importance. I received several compliments on my
"new" dreads look! Several people were admiring them. I
had to let you know! This was a week-long professional African-American women's
business conference. Everyone looked their absolute best--down to having
manicures and pedicures--and the week ended with a formal dinner gala on
Saturday night.

June, the owner, has a disarming disposition that made me feel comfortable right away. Body, Soul and Spirit Salon is exactly what a salon experience should consist of; relaxing atmosphere and beautiful healthy hair! June has such a sweet personality; I was very comfortable and confident with her doing my hair. She helped me to maintain my hair in between hair appointments. She has hair restoration and growth down to a science! Before coming to June I was not confident enough to wear my own hair (without weave or extensions) because or the breakage and split ends. I started going to June for my salon services in 1999 and have not been to another salon since. Initially, I was using a relaxer to maintain my hair - but the same year I began seeing June I stopped relaxing my hair (I am now relaxer free!) and my hair has never been healthier. My hair was shoulder length in 1999, and now it is about 5-6 inches above my waistline, and my hair has not been this long since I was a child.
Other salons that I have been to didn't cater to the client - and the service was totally unprofessional. At BSS I feel taken care of and I always leave feeling great about my hair and my total appearance (June makes me look great!). Even my husband loves when I go to get my hair done :0). Each service performed is catered to the client - no cookie cutter quick services just to make a dollar.
I recommend BSS to anyone looking for a salon. Convenient location (accessible via Bart/Muni), early hours (which is great for us early risers), and overall great service. I love June!

I love June Armstead, the Director of Body, Soul and Spirit. She is the only trichology stylist that will let touch my hair! I have been through hell and back when it comes to finding the right stylist. June is a miracle worker. She is highly knowledgeable when it comes to maintaining healthy hair and never fails to put all of her efforts into your hair growth and maintenance. June has been maintaining my hair for almost two years now. I found her through an extensive internet search and was relieved when I called her.
Body Soul and Spirit Salon is not your typical wash n go, in and out salon. She does not provide the $40 wash, blow dry and style that most ethnic hair salons provide. She provides a well rounded service in which you will receive an extensive wash, deep conditioner, style and trim in one appointment.
My hair was extremely damaged when I first came to her because of using relaxers and using hair gel in my hair on a daily basis. My hair was dry, brittle and had no elasticity. My hair was growing but it was not staying healthy or long because of the damage it had went through with years of no proper maintenance. I had went to hair stylists in which never put any oils in hair or suggested a relaxer or texturizer to soften or straighten my roots. This was only a temporary fix and for years, I had to chop off many inches of my hair because it kept breaking off. Now I have a brand new head of my own hair. It is shiny, healthy, soft, and best of all growing! Finally!
June will complete a consultation before she even offers you a service. Her main objective is to make your hair healthy not get you for your money or tell you things that you want to hear. To maintain hair, it’s a combination of things: routine deep conditions, multi vitamins, etc. She provides it all.
I have nothing but good things to say about this salon. It’s a very clean and nice salon, and always quiet. If you suffer from hair loss, damage, need great maintenance to keep your shine and new growth, I highly recommend going to see June.
She also offers hair products, skin care products....overall wellness products. Please do give her a call. She also works with all types of hair.

I came to Body, Soul and
Spirit Salon in December of 1999 with virtually no hair on my head. In
November of 1999, my former hairdresser put a relaxer and dye on my hair at the
same time. My head swelled up the size of a pumpkin and my eyes were so
swollen they were closed and my hair fell out. I had to be treated by a
medical doctor with steroids. I was devastated because this was the
second time in 5 years that this happened to me. I was convinced I would

I have been going to Body,
